Three layer version

I have been experimenting with layered paper craft. This is similar to the dragon one from Day 13.
This one turned out okay, there is still refining to do. The template that I used to make all of these layered paper craft models uses a 10mm distance between the layers. I think i can cut that distance down to 5mm instead.

I like the two layer version more then the three layer version here. Too much of the detail is obscured by the first layer. I am going to itterate on this one a bit more. The robot is from the Iron Giant for anyone that is curious.

I considered this one a failure, the branches are far too thin and are very flimsy. It got a lot of love on Instagram so I will have to do an iteration on it to see if I can fix some of the problems. .

These little guys are called kodama and were my favorite from Princess Mononoke made by Studio Ghibli. If you have never seen this film is well worth it.
I need some different color paper! I have run out of everything but black and white. In this one I experimented with reducing the distance between each layer down from 10mm to 5mm. I think it works better.

Failed #SamuraiJack #layered #laser #papercut. I got the layers order mixed up and the #aku is too small to see the details. His face in all three versions collapse in on its self. I am going to try this one again in the future.

A small (20x10 inches) scale prototype pylon lantern.
The next prototype versions will be much smaller as this one took too long to cut. I want shorten the tabs, extend the voronoi pattern to the edge of the face and integrate it with the slots for the tabs.
I am not so set on the voronoi pattern either. I am going to try some different patterns to see what works. In the end I want this to be around 7 feet tall.

Part of the MeeBox project for burning man. This is a Visualization of my DNA. Data is from 23andme and I used processing to make the image. This is a very small sub section of the entire image. Eventually this will be laser engraved into a box.

A box for people to “gift” me things at burning man. Its going into the center of the dome and there will be trinkets and pendents hanging from the ceiling for people to take. if they want to they can drop one of their own trinkets into the box for me.
The box is two boxes inside of each other. The lid fits snugly on top. if I ever made another box like this, i will find a design that it has a solid section on the lip of the lid. This works but looks weird.

This mask was designed by http://wintercroft.com/ I purchased the plans and cut it out with chloroplast. I have a few sheets of mirrored acrylic that i plan to cut and glue the mirrored panels on to the mask.
