My availability is limited and I don’t like working over a crowd. We can’t build all 20 at once, feel free to schedule another night on a Tues, it is an easy build.
I just got the arduinos, but there is a hiccup. I have two diff sizes of boards, the smaller one measures 1.3" by .7", distance between solder pads is .6" (opposing sides). I have 20 of these. Looking at the SparkFun specs, this is looks correct but can someone with a pcb measure it and tell me if they will work?
I have 5 more with a pcb size of 1.55" by .9" I had ordered extra, thinking we need to have a couple for “warranty” Assuming the smaller one works, there are a couple of people who ordered more than the number of sets they have, so @wander @lukecyca @interlock @packetbob I’m going to short you 1 for the moment, in case some of the micros die early.
But the first question is are any of these arduino’s usable for the piccolo pcb?
My PCBs are all in my locker at vhs so I can’t really help you right now.
I want to know where your pcbs are. I put an order in for another project on Jan 5, they arrived yesterday.
Me too! Dirty PCB’s site says 1-8 wks, and we are in week 7, so it’s still within that window. I’d be inclined to wait until mid-week next week, and then just put in another order. If you’re in next Tue I should be there, maybe we can check that the Arduino’s I received will fit in case we need to adjust the plan.
[On the orders I’ve received from AliExpress, the package is tracked when CanadaPost receives it so it looks like it hasn’t reached this side of the pond yet. Is that something I can follow up with Dirty P?] OK, scratch that, they don’t send as registered.
Oh, wait, here they are!
Just arrived today. And I checked the Arduino’s and I have 20 that are the right size - wahoo!
Ok, here’s the deal for the Arduino’s. I ordered extra so we could have a couple of spares in case there are some duds. Since I have two different sizes, though, the only way to do that is to hold back 3 from people who wanted more than the number of kits they need. The price is $8 each, including the communal “spares”. If there are no duds, then the extras go to the people who requested them.
If there are no duds, then I’ll sell or buy them myself, whatever’s left. This will generate up to an extra $30, which I’ll put toward further purchases (we still need some bolts, for one) or just donate to VHS.
One other problem, the first Pro Micro’s I got came with a mini-USB cable, I ordered a few more with the next order, but the proper size Arduino’s have a micro-USB (I think that’s what they’re called). So we need to find some cables
We should be good to get together on Thur Feb 5 as scheduled, to divide up all the goodies and maybe build a few.
In case someone wants to buy an XLarge Pro Micro, here’s the difference in size:
I’ve probably made this more confusing than it needs to be. I want to hold on to 3 micro’s for a while, in case we have some failures, so that will probably be for a while. If people are happy with the larger Arduino board, you can have that now. And there is one of the Picollo friendly boards that is available right away.
I’ll bring everything next Thur and we can figure it out then.
Is the piccollo build night happening tonight? I have the thumbwheel pots,
I’ll stop by around 8 to drop them off in case they’re needed tonight, but
unfortunately I won’t be able to stay.
I’ll be there tonight, and will have the servos.
Please stop by with the pots, I’ll have the pcbs and other components. Will be there from 7.
Looking forward to starting this project tonight.
Should we bring anything other than are pretty selves and a laptop for programming the CNC to do amazing things?
A portable laser cutter to cut out the frame
Will anybody be at the space around 6? It might be easier for me to drop
off the pots then than at 8.
I have Arduino’s and pcb’s, will be there 7:15-ish.
No, I didn’t collect from anyone yet so we’re good.
@3bien If you need someone to be there tonight at 6pm I can make the effort to leave work early.
This is if no-one else has an easier time of it.
I’m at VHS. I’ll be here for a while.
I’ll give it a try at 6, otherwise I’ll bring them in at 8.
