You might notice I’ve kinda boosted my smd workshop pace over the last few months. Thanks to @toma we have a substantial grant that we can use for parts. This has brought in lots of people from meetup and quite a lot of donations to VHS. We put the first two rounds of donations into donatio.
The donations from last night and any more I run (there’s still enough left for 3 more workshops I think) are going toward purchase of a quality smd toaster oven controller for the space.
So thanks to @toma for applying for the grant, keep your eyes open for other grants we can apply for.

This is a beginners SMD workshop. You’ll be taken through a technique for solder smd components and then get a chance to build the board shown in the photo. The parts kit has been kindy paid for by a grant, please consider donating to VHS on the night.
People should have some soldering experience - the focus will be on SMD soldering, not soldering in general. All tools and materials will be provided. Please consider bringing your own soldering iron with a fine tip - it is easier if …

For this workshop we’ll be building SMD lipo chargers by hand. You’ll have the option of hand soldering them or using paste and hot air or a toaster oven.
Parts kit generous provided by a grant, donation to vhs suggested. Ticket required.

This is a beginners SMD workshop. We’ll be using the paste dispenser to make a very simple but useful tool. The ATX breakout board or two molex breakout boards. The ATX breakout gives 3.3V/5V/12V from a PC power supply, this model also has a USB power output. The Molex breakout gives 5V/12V from the hard disk connector, it can be used in conjunction with the ATX breakout or as a way to get power from a PC.

I missed the news. What did @toma do?
@toma applied for a Neighbourhood grant to hold soldering workshops, and he got it.
Just FYI I applied for the neighbourhood grant under my name. My application is to do a soldering workshop that is almost word for word like the one described in our blog.
Took me 15 minutes and I’m requesting $700 for soldering stations.

The last three soldering workshops @TomKeddie has been running has been funded by a “small neighbourhood grant” that I received.
According to @TomKeddie they have been going really well (Good job Keddie!).
The workshops are free, all the costs of running them covered by me and all the volunteer work done by @tomkeddie .
