hey @Austin_Johnson it doesn’t look like anybody is hosting tours on the evening of Wednesday the 15th, but I can certainly give you a tour on a Tuesday evening, such as the 14th or 21st, if that will work for you.

Hello everyone! I’m interested in using the sewing area. I’ve been making a fashion collection, however I need a bigger space. It would be really helpful if someone can give me a tour and have the opportunity to be a member. I am wondering if I can drop by starting tomorrow and this weekend? Thank you!

Hi @Shanella you are in luck… I am planning to be at the space this Saturday, and I can show you around. Stop by any time between noon and 2 pm.

As a general FYI about how it works at the Hack Space, the space is fully volunteer run, and keyholder members have the option to open up the space to non-keyholders while they’re there, if they think they can reliably supervise the front door (ie, they’re not in the back with hearing protection on, they know how long they’re planning to be there, aren’t going to be popping in and out of the space, etc.)

IsVHSopen.com has the calendar for the scheduled open hours, but more may be added on an ad-hoc basis, like I’m doing tomorrow afternoon.

Once a member has been a member for one month, they can get vetted for a key, and that gives them full 24/7 access to the space. (vetting just means that at least three people have gotten to see you work and are willing to say that you clean up after yourself, work safely, and aren’t giving off strong axe-murderer vibes.)

Hi - I would love to drop in for a tour as a prospective new member. I understand there’s an Open House slot tomorrow from 18:00-22:30? I am available then if there is space for me. Watched the virtual video tour and am already in love with the space, but have special interest in the metal shop for a current small fab project.

Here’s the inspiration I’m going off of for my build:

It’s a pretty simple 0.09" plate Aluminum ‘dash’ for my motorcycle (still need to source stock Al, which I will try to do tomorrow so I can bring it to VHS), with some 3/16x3/4" Al tabs welded on. I may do a first iteration by just bending/hardware-mounting the tabs or brackets & although I have no welding experience whatsoever, I would love to learn & I hear you’re the person to do that from.

I have a pretty involved project that would consist of building extrapolations on Leslie style rotary speakers. I expect to use most areas of the space to achieve it, specifically the machining and metal fab area and I would love a tour! Im free all week.

I’m Miki. I’m hoping to find a partner to work with on some exciting interactive art projects. I’ll be attending the open hours event this Tuesday at 7pm, and I’m looking forward to meeting new people. I’m new to the area since I moved here to pursue my master’s degree at the School for Contemporary Art. Before that, I was actively involved in managing Phase Space in New York, a DIY studio that focused on creative coding and interdisciplinary art practices.
