Taig CNC Mill Training

Hi, I would also like to sign up for access to the CNC mill. Have a few aluminum parts I want to machine.

2 interested here! Myself and Katie McDonald.

Now that things have gotten slightly less crazy at work, I’d like to get in on the next training too. I bought a copy of the CAD files for this drag knife a few years ago and it’d be nice to actually finish something for a change.

I added you to the list. Do you have any prospective projects?

@Arrgh

Can you send the project so I can take a look at what it will take to make?

Thanks Brian. No projects at this specific time. Still keen for the training if the opportunity arises however.

Thanks,

John

I’ve got a really simple project. Two machined aluminum parts with M3 through holes. Should not be hard. I’m making a prototype on the laser cutter with acrylic but most likely need aluminum for strength.
I’ve used milling machines before years ago when I was a grad student, so I am basically familiar. Never programmed a CNC mill, however.

Are you using Fusion 360 to design your part? Is it ok to share the design?

I can share it. Just converted it to 360 format from dxf. How should I send it to you?

I can’t share mine publicly, I’ll PM you a 360 link.

I’m interested in training on the CNC mill also.

Yeah,
right now I’m working on a custom motorcycle gas tank and need to make a flange/bung to mount this style of gas cap

I would most likely go for a 6000-series aluminum. The installed part would look like this:

Close-up:

The part is a bit thin for the lathe, and I think it’s a good simple start for the mill since it only requires 1 setup and is really only 2.5D milling plus some driiling

Hello, When will the next training be?!

I will add you to the list. Do you have any experience with Fusion 360 or any projects you have in mind for the machine?

Hello, yes I have used Fusion 360 to make GCODE before. I have even used this exact machine before, so the training should be more of a refresher! The project I have in mind will require cutting poly-carbonate sheets. I am hoping to mill out some components for a bioreactor for my research project. Thanks!

Right on, can you generate some tool paths in fusion and share the project?

Absolutely, would you like me to share the project on slack? I can also provide you with my SOP for the Taig.

People who still want to get trained.

There is going to be a Fusion 360 night Thursday February 7th. You can learn more about how to use CAM side of fusion and get ready to machine things.
