SHOW ME MORE!!! It’s going to look so pretty!
Sunglasses will be necessary when using the Prusa i3 - because the frame is so shiny!
Steve
If it’s too Bright, you can take a random orbital sander to it, and give it a matte finish.
I have finally got enough of the bits to start. I have got the M10 threaded rod so I can start to build the base. I’ll start cutting it up to length this weekend. Next up on the acquisition list is the plywood frame…
We have your frame in our locker at the shoebox
Great!!
Now it’s just the slow wait for all the various bits and pieces to make it here from offshore…
I will get the M10 cut up and grab the frame parts this weekend and start the build process…
I was drooling over the printer at vhs, I really like the v gears on the extruder, I didn’t see a link above can someone add one?
I can’t remember where I got them from. I may have complied them from scad files from the original.
These are the stl’s

Steve
I’ll be printing a set of these tonight.
I’m sniffing around thinking about an i3 too. At the moment I’m thinking while in China I’ll buy this to get me started and upgrade from there. It isn’t RAMPS based so I might ditch the electronics, not sure. Is about $CA200 for the set.

looks like a Melzi controller, same as the Mendel90
At $200 for the whole printer, I would be very surprised if that’s a real Melzi. Inspect the solder joints on the board and that all electronics are rated properly. If the printer comes with an acrylic frame as show in the first picture, I recommend replacing that right away with laser cut wood or aluminium from @Big_Mak.
I would inspect the solder joints carefully on any board that comes from
China. Don’t ask how I came to this, but it wasn’t pretty.
thanks I’m still on the fence about this. The reality seems to be that if you don’t have the time to acquire the parts with care then you don’t have time to make a printer, kit or no kit…
I think I’ll just slowly start printing a set and see how I go.
anyone have a “hobbed bolt” they want to part with?
i ordered a few via aliexpress but what I got was crap as the heads are off center from the bolt…
need one for 1.75 mil filament (if it matters) and was planning to use a wades extruder (but that could change as i just broke a part on mine)…
thanks
(i’m saving on wasting uppercase characters)
@rsim was showing people how to make them on the mill at one point.
Did this awhile ago using the mill and a tap. Hope this helps. Wasn’t to hard.
Where did you guys get your z-axis motor-to-rod couplers?
I know Lee’s sells couplers in a few different sizes.
