@Funvill thanks for the pizza! It helped us take down the TV.
A hearty cyber pat on the back to all those who have assisted/lead the packing of the space. I regret being so busy as to not be able to assist with the packing and such, so I will extends my thanks and gratitude to those that have made it out to help in that regard.
I had to go home sunday on acount of being too hung over to do much. The workshop got a lot of large tools put on pallets, I started dismantling the laser filter, that needs to be completed. I only managed to take some blurry pictures.
Took down the shop storage shelf.
It was a lot easier to take it down then I thought it was going to be especially with the right tools
Took apart the workbench in the shop
Took apart the fume hood
There are only three items left to do
- Chemical locker - There are a bunch of stuff that I donât know what it is or how to recycle it properly. I would love some help with this.
- CNC, Mill, Lathe - We need an hoist and some custom built pallets for these machines. @rsim any progress on getting a hoist ?
- Deconstruct the laser room - Who ever built this room, used 3 different types of screws, bolts, and nails! So annoying to take apart. I canât and shouldnât (Safety!) deconstruct this room without some help.
- The shop wall - This will happen AFTER we move out all of the pallets
We need to remove the walls we put up for 2 reasons:
-
Itâs in our lease. Lots of technicalities, but generally breaking part of a lease doesnât invalidate the whole thing. And strictly speaking, it was the lease extension which was borked, our original term ended Dec 31st. But thatâs not even important, because:
-
We donât want to be responsible in any way for it after we move out.
C
Where ?
I donât remember seeing it in the lease

@funvill I have a 2 ton engine hoist, looks like http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200305213_200305213 without the leveler. Is that what youâre looking for?
Perfect ! Thank you
Do you need us to pick it up?
Someone would need to pick it up, it wonât fit on my motorcycle! Iâm in East Van, at Nanaimo and 26th.
I plan on coming in tomorrow (Tues) night. Can throw in to help deconstruct the laser room.
I can give you full details on how to take her down when I get another baby break.
;)
@ccudahy I am at nanaimo and mcGill, I will pick up that engine hoist. I have a truck, should fit. When works for you? I work a 9-5
Great work on pulling down the racking, crowbars are lovely tools.
For those taking down walls, the safety equipment was unpacked and placed on the craft table.
From what I found, there were:- two respirator-style full face mask; the filters are in an unknown state- a box of safety glasses- a back of gloves
The cloth-mask filters I found were torn and contaminated, so I discarded them while packing. If a number of people are working on taking down the drywall I suggest buying additional cloth masks to protect against the dust.
Thanks for digging out the stuff.
Personally I think those masks are good for nothing but piece of mind. If youâre doing this please consider bringing a rubber mask with cartridge filters. These things are best not shared too (although you can wash them once the cartridges are removed).
Itâs fair point.
I also have not seen any claw hammers or crowbars in the space tools, so if you have them please bring them!
Having an overview of the plan will help me get a sense
What is the plan for tonight? I have a full mask, several not-so-great masks, and a couple pairs of gloves I can bring.
When will we know if the paperwork goes through or not?
When will we be packing the pallets onto a truck and moving them somewhere?
Dismantling the Laser room.If someone feels up to it there is the chemical locker. As always drinking beer.
Are we clearing away from the wall to dismantle that soon-ish?
What about the other by-whens?
The shop wall, (between the main area and the shop) will be taken down AFTER we move out all the pallets of stuff. Because the laser room is inside the dusty shop, it can be taken down now as the drywall dust probably wonât effect anything left in the shop.
I have not been given notice when we are moving by the space hutting committee or BoD. I do not know the status of the new space. I have told them that if its after 17th of Dec we will have a very hard time finding people power to move and take down the wall. I am currently waiting on feedback.
You donât need to dismantle the room to get the laser out, just the sliding door and the drywall covering it. Please remove the door and frame carefully, it was expensive and we should be able to reuse it.
