Packing up the bunker (Move out and clean up committee)

Thanks, this will help a great deal!

INTERNET HIGH FIVE!

Can’t make it tonight; left a few goodies behind the recycling can.

Thank you for the gloves and water bottles!

OMG this made the entire packing experience so much better.

Of the 5 we could really only use 3 of them. The other two were too damaged. We need about 5 more good pallets to finish the space… Thank you!

Thank you for securing the pallet jack, it really saved the day today.

We made a lot of process tonight, We had a great group of people helping packing

@ajvhs, @Rob_MacKenzie, @iMakeRobots, @jon, @funvill, @wander, @Janet, @spuug, We are missing 4 people from this photo. please tell me and I will add you to the list.

We packed up all the E-Weste for pickup tomorrow.

I packed up all the usable members laser materials and removed name. (You had your chance to pick it up. I am not even sorry)

I made pile of all the garbage member laser materials. This will be trashed this weekend.

Started taking apart the storage racks.

Reorganized the pallets to make the space nagagatable. This wouldn’t have been possible without the pallet jack

Some playing

The main room is now fully packed up. All that is left is the shop.
The wall also has to come down and the large material storage unit, as well as the chem locker, and the other desks in the shop.

So we are on track to be fully packed up by Dec 1st.

You folks are amazing

Considering I haven’t seen an announcement of a new space, I think it’s safe to say that we’re not actually moving this weekend though right?

And the laser room too right? I think you said we had until the end of Dec to sort this out? I can help in mid Dec but not much until then. I can also remove the rfid unit and clean up the holes if it can wait until then. For the drywall it would be best if we can borrow a trailer from someone for a few days and fill it as we take it down. An alternative would be a bin but we would need to work out the volume we needed.

Once all the stuff is gone, making dust will be less of an issue too.

I’m probably going to have to grab it back on Sunday, but we should be occasionally able to use it for a couple days. A more long-term (free) solution would be better.

I’m still firmly in the ā€œbuying one would be really sillyā€ camp, for a whole bunch of reasons.

New space is looking good for Cook Street. Barring some sort of problem with our licenses (which is still entirely possible - shit is complicated, yo) someone will post a status update today or tomorrow. The lease is starting January 1st, but we are planning on doing some more finagling with the current tenants, so December may be an option.

@funvill I’ll be your Gorbachev if you want. I can come down either tonight or tomorrow night, possibly both, and tear down this wall. If you want me to wait, speak up.

I was all for leaving it up, but since we apparently HAVE to take it down, I suggest we go with your initial plan and salvage the lumber to build out the Shoebox so I’ll do my best for that. If you have a preference on which night, let me know. If you will not be there, maybe let me know where would be a good place to neatly stack large sections of drywall. I intend to cut the drywall down in nice, manageable chunks to reduce mess and double-handling as much as possible before dismantling the frame. It’ll be slower and less satisfying than just taking a sledgehammer to the thing, but it’ll reduce the mess.

I suppose I’ll start with the laser wall which has the pocket door so the laser cam be moved whenever?

If anyone else wants to help, come on down. If you have a razor knife, a sawzall, and/or a prybar/wreckingbar, bring them with you.

Glad I can be of some assistance.

remember to bring dust masks and goggles. The gloves were all carefully set aside in a known location. a lot of the other safety gear was packed too soon.

Might be best to wait until all the stuff has been moved? The real problem is high access, we never had a safe solution for reaching that ceiling.

We have the big orange ladder for that now!

The chemical locker still needs packed/sorted out. There’s tons of crazy stuff in there. I looked in last night but I have no idea what half of this is, if it should be chucked or how to dispose of it. For example there are weird things in bottles with handwritten labels that may or may not be correct plus your usual assortment of hacker-esque chemicals, WD40, acetone, and so on.

Is there a mad scientist around who can take a look?

All of this stuff will roll around in there if we just tape it shut and move it, not to mention what will happen if things spill and mix.

Thanks for the update. The urgency to pack seems odd given this timing, people might object to paying for a space they can’t use for a month?

We had hoped to be able to move sooner, but good point.

There’s also the issue of timing - the later into December we move, the less people will be able to help. Also worth considering is that before we move anything into the new space we have to put up walls, and after everything is moved out of the Bunker we have to take down the walls. I doubt we’d be able to do any of those things in parallel given the number of hands that the move is getting.

I don’t think we can take down the wall while all our stuff is in the space. As soon as we take the pallets out we can take down the wall.

There is a little problem with that is that we will want to move all the stuff out of the bunker in to the shooebox before tearing down the wall. And don’t want to move our stuff into the new place until we have outfitted it with a wall…

Well I guess that the stuff could remain on the pallets at the new place for a few days while we build the walls. I just hope it does not get in the way.

This can be done anytime the LLC gives the okay. They are in charge of the laser @rsim, @RobertButterworth

Yep, We don’t want people getting hurt or sick. Besafe!
I don’t know what the safety concerns are for drywall.
I suggest that you look it up before attacking the wall.

I will add it to the list, I don’t know what to do with most of these chemicals.
What is good, what needs to be recycled, how to recycle them properly

The biggest issue is man power right now. Volunteering time to the space around the holidays is going to be hard for everyone. Once of the reasons that I want to get as much done now as possible.

Thanks again to everyone that has been helping out !

If there is a need for extra outlets and electrical wiring, I can arrange for an electrician to come in before we start taking over the new space. Only cost to VHS may be the cost of any materials (i am thinking minimum or no cost…). If there is any interest or need of this please let me know asap and lets set up a time for sooner than later.

Given the sudden notice on the lease etc., I would think that VHS doesn’t have to pay any rent for Dec (and even Nov). Was anything agreed to, in that regard?
