Moving into the new space on Cook St

Scratch that!!! Truck spotted

Stupid suggestion: If we can’t return the current truck without a
substantial financial penalty, and you have enough people:

  1. Make sure you have pallet wrap.
  2. Load up with pallets at the Science World storage that have human
    carry-able items on them.
  3. Park on the gravel commercial area as close as possible.
  4. Put a pallet on the loading dock.
  5. Create a bucket brigade where people carry items into the loading bay
and place them on the pallet.
  6. Wrap pallet if unstable.
  7. Pull pallet into the space on a pallet jack.
  8. Repeat.

This will take care of the lighter items until you can arrange for a
forklift. It’s slow, but at least you can make some progress.

Stupid Suggestion #2:

  1. Rent second smaller van/truck that will fit into the loading bay.
  2. Acquire or construct a ramp strong enough to support pallets that fits
between the larger truck and the van.
  3. Load larger truck at Science World storage, drive to Cook st.
  4. Shuttle pallets into the smaller van over the ramp.
  5. Back the van into the Cook street bay and unload pallets via ramp.
  6. Repeat.

That’ll work for those items but what about the big stuff?

Smaller truck that cat fit and the use of a dock plate or dock board.

Dock plates can take anywhere from 1,000 lbs to 4,000 lbs and come wide enough to fit a pallet jack

Heaver loads would require a dock board, these can hold forklifts

1st truck leaving Powell st. Lots of hand-loadable pallets.

What about the wheelchair access ramp? How wide is it?

Steve

Not quite wide enough for a pallet.

I would swap the truck for one that is lower and without a lift gate.

Then pick up one of these to cover the different heights between loading docks:

Dan’s Equipment has them in North Van right near the bridge, they are $50/day to rent and heavy, will take 4 people to lift this in place

It’s working out. We got a manual fork lift. Things are going well

Good job troubleshooting. I love how we can scare up a manual fork lift in a pinch. See you lot around 6 pm.

Anyone out there that can relieve our current driver?

I am heading back by bus - will be there by 6pm

End of day - EVERYTHING IS MOVED TO THE NEW SPACE!

A lot of hard, hard work by a small army of members - thank you all for your work! It was great to see such a turnout on a week day.

Truly, it was a labour worthy of Hercules.

Much adversary was overcome for a tremendous outcome.

Thanks to everyone for putting forth such a huge effort!

Also, I’m sorry for the things I said when I was hungry.
