Providing an update from the Metal CNC Committee. Since Feb this year, we’ve been burning the midnight oil to get Jaxen CNC ready for general members to use for projects. We’re very close!
To describe what’s going on, the work is about more than just having a working machine- although there was a long period where Jaxen didn’t actually work- it needed rewiring during moving to it’s new home in the corner. That is now complete, and rest assured the machine definitely works. We now also have documentation on the state of the machine on the wiki, so that upgrade projects can be undertaken easily in the future. Most of the work is actually captured in the form of a training program, as well as building general familiarity with the machine. We’re trying to go through the motions and make all the mistakes ahead of time, so that we limit having a dozen members each make the same mistakes, multiplied a dozen times… but don’t worry- learning is all about failures!
