Hello, I want to help improve the metal CNC machines at VHS!
I would love to see the larger machines at VHS in improved condition to serve the community.
I am looking to connect with the current champions/trainers/users of the machines. I want to join your team, get to know you, get trained on each machine, understand what work needs to be done on the machines, and then get it done. Heck, I’ll even buy the parts.
I was at VHS last week, and got a look at all the CNC machines. This is my understanding:
- Jaxon: a Grizzly G0619 mill with CNC conversion, now inside the plexiglass enclosure. Operational as of 2025 Summer but “Not user-friendly”?
- Gage: a Grizzly G0463 mill with CNC conversion. Located in the corner of “CNC land”. NOT Operational as of 2025 Summer? Tell me more!
- Loratron: a YOOCNC 6040Z S80. I believe this is the smaller one for aluminum only on the west side of “CNC land?” Seems to be working? Wiki has no updates since 2020.
My past experience and background: I built a wood CNC for a company I worked at, got it working nicely, and made some 2D robotics parts with it before leaving the company. My current job is doing electrical controls engineering in Burnaby. I studied CNC milling controls and mechanics in university- although I’m sure you folks at VHS know more than I do- I am hoping to learn! I love things that are “Made in Canada”, and I consider milling to be the king of all other mass-manufacturing processes, like injection moulding, extruding, metal stamping, robotics parts, even making other tools.
Please reply and let me know if we can work together!
