Aluminium section group buy? 2020=$8.82/m 2040=$15.40/m

Am looking for some 2040 section myself, wondering who else might be interested. Prices are ex tax, pickup in Aldergrove, we can work that out later. I didn’t ask about 4040 but will if there is demand. Am sticking to 1m lengths to keep this simple. Am not interested in non-metric but they have stock in BC of that (grrr… metric country my ass). They are the BC dealer for 8020 extrusion.

Group buy closes at 8pm Thursday Feb 25th, they need the order by Feb 28th for mid March delivery. I think we are limited to 100lbs due to import issues, can repeat at the end of March for April delivery if needed.

You can easily laser cut or 3d print brackets to join this stuff, you can also tap the ends.

Here are some things I have made. We have some 1515 openbeam at vhs I believe (the smaller stuff attached to the 2020 in the first photo is openbeam)

I’m in, I’ll have to figure out how much I need. I go to abbotsford every Sunday, in case they are open for pick up on Sundays.

Could you please find out about the 20-4040? thanks

Edit: I would also like to get some:

Post Edit: NVM, the hardware is way cheaper at Aliexpress. I’m going to order the following from AliExpress, let me know if you want me to order extras for anyone.

M5 Slide-in Economy T-Nut Block P/N 14122 (the AliExpress ones look like a better deal, size PX-SN20-M5 )
2 Hole - 18mm Slotted Inside Corner Bracket with Dual Support P/N 14060
4 Hole - Inside Corner with Single Support P/N 14057

Thanks!

Neat! I’ve been wanting to try working with this stuff.

Do you need special nuts to go in the slots, and if so can we get those at the same place?

Will do.

I would suggest getting them on aliexpress but I will ask.

Is there a charge for cutting the 4m standard lengths? Personally I would prefer 2m lengths to reduce waste, I understand this would only work if everyone was ordering multiples of 2.

So far my order is:

4m of 2020 ($35.28)
4m of 2040 ($61.60)
2m of 4040 (depending on the price)

Thanks for joining in, I’ll let you know when I hear back on the 4040, given the above it’s likely to be slightly less than 2 x 2040.

The standard lengths are 1m as I understand it. From what I can tell there is a $2.73 cutting charge on other lengths. I think 2m would be 2x1m + 2.73.

Interested. I’ll figure out what I need and get back to you shortly.

Price update, will ask again for the 4040.

For more details, look up the part numbers in https://www.8020.net/bookshelf

I ordered some t-nuts from Aliexpress and they didn’t fit properly, too small. Check the dimensions against the extrusion. I’ve been using these t-nuts:

@hectorh here is your 4040.

@ashley Perhaps you can post the link so people know what not to order?

Updated the closing to Thursday night. Need to order on Friday as the 28th is Sunday.

I’m not saying don’t order them or wanting to malign one particular vendor on Aliexpress, I’m sure they fit some extrusion. The point is to check the manufacturers’ drawings to make certain that parts from different suppliers will work together. I did not and ended up with a box of t-nuts that I’ll one day order some extrusion for.

Thanks Tom. Too many projects on the go so I’m going to pass this round.

Lovely, I’m in with 42020, 42040, and 2*4040. Thank you @TomKeddie. When do you need the funds and is PayPal ok or do you prefer some other method?

Given there’s only two of us and I’m not ordering much I need to check on the courier costs. They’re only open 8-4 weekdays so pickup isn’t really an option.

I have a friend out there, he could pick it up during the week, I pick it up from him on the weekend. Maybe for the cost of a six pack for his trouble. What’s the address?

Sounds like a great option. Remember they don’t have stock yet, this is for mid March. Address is at Contact Rocky Mountain Motion Control, BC Canada

I can cover you, will let you know - a cheque will be fine if that suits you (no fees).
