Before:
Storage space and work surface in the paint and mess room not great.
The idea:
Replace the beat up desk and shipping crate stand for the sandblaster with one large work table. The blue surface in this diagram. The table height was raised to 33" to match the tables in the main work space. This will allow the use of the rolling office chairs.
The Prep:
Removing the heavy desk was a team effort! Space is now ready for the work table.
After a meeting with Phil to iron out design details, assembly begins!
Fit sanity check
Cross bracing to support weight on the table
Adding legs, which are doubled up 2x4’s, glued, screwed and supported with wood angle brackets.
Table finally in place after some jenga juggling work from @Brad. Table had to be flipped 180 degrees lengthwise in tight space. It was touch and go!

The first sacrificial paper has been laid! The unwritten rule that any empty space must immediately be filled was fulfilled ![]()
As always projects like this are only possible with the help of other members.
A big shoutout to:
- @Phillip_Ma for design consultation and guidance and of course building
- @Casey for his help with assembly
- @Seloame, @Gabriel, @vlad, @Mitchell? and @Brad for moving desks out and helping with placing the new table in its place
- Also @Brad donated the melamine for work table top.
If I’ve missed anyone please let me know and I will update this list.
