Where To Listen?

Took the Basic exam today, passed with 77%! Probably going to re-take it
in a few weeks to try and get Honours and the Morse code qualifications though.

So now that I’m waiting for my callsign ( but already have a radio )
I’ve got some questions. Well, one question, really.

What are some good frequencies to listen to in the Lower Mainland? Got a
Baofeng radio from Farrell as part of the radio course, and it only lets
me use pre-programmed channels.

I already know about VECTOR, and I’m going to add their channel to my
radio. What other channels ( or radio clubs ) should I program into my
radio? Because of where I’m located ( close to the western side of
Burnaby mountain ) I figured that the Burnaby and North Shore radio
clubs would be some good ones.

What other channels should I program?

For our VHS vhf radio we selected a range of Repeater and simplex channels. I will dig up the list and copy it across to you.
Further - I do have some programming cables for the radios and will pass on the software which makes the programming much simpler.

@seanhagen At the Google drive link below is what I use as my grab and go frequency list. It has the VECTOR frequencies and other area repeaters.

“Locally” you can get them from Fleetwood in surrey: Fleetwood Digital - Ham Radios, CB Radios, VHF Radio, Marine Radio

I have ordered import radios from http://409shop.com/ many times in the past and have been happy with their service, but obviously they come on the slow boat and take a couple weeks.

Been happy with the BaoFeng UV-5R+ I bought from amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Band-136-174-400-480/dp/B0097252UK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417216328&sr=8-1&keywords=baofeng+uv-5r%2B

Picked up from a mailbox service in Point Roberts (The Letter Carrier, which is now defunct), declared at border, no problems.

Couldn’t beat the price.

Baofeng has now split its company into 2 groups; commercial and amateur. It might be helpful too look for Pofung UV5R as that is their new amateur division.

I bought one from Fleetwood DP, as I was in a rush 2 days before sun run. The other I bought from Ebay of the cheapest seller I could find.
