[VanLUG] The Rise and Fall of (Embedded) Linux or What the hell went wrong? | April 18th 2016 - 7:00 PM

Who: Brian Empey - Founder of Techsol (one of the few hardware manufacturers left in the country)

Where: SFU Harbour Centre - Room: HC 1415

When: April 18th, 2016. 7:00 PM.

As a follow up to a talk he gave us ~12 years ago, Brian Empey will talk about:

The evolution of Linux in embedded applications (Brian’s specialty):

• 1990s :: the early adopters

• 2000s :: the rise of the smart-phone, and other accelerating factors

• 2010s :: the growth of competitors and the future of Linux:

The future of Linux:

• Problems & Challenges

• Threats (competitors)

• Possible solutions

After 15 years of doing nothing but embedded Linux, we’re now doing non-Linux product design. I think it would be worthwhile to talk about why Linux may be hitting its peak, and what needs to be done to it to get it back on top of the OS choice list for new product developments.

Technical Solutions Inc. was wiped out by the recession, and shut down in 2012. Techsol Engineering started in 2013. We are now doing a mix of embedded HW & SW product development, plus pure SW projects: notably the creation and support of cloud-based businesses.

Please RSVP on Meetup if possible as space is limited.
