Hi, I am very new here. We are a group of school students with a small electronic project that needs space to DIY our prototype. We found VHS as an “eureka” for our project so we would love to visit for a tour of the space tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept-3). Is it possible for an in-person tour for us tomorrow?
Hi Harley - Stop by between 4:30 and 9 for a tour. Someone can show you around the space.
Hi,
My name is Vikas, I’m looking for a place for a personal project and I feel VHS is a perfect place. Is it possible to get a tour of the place?
Thank you in advance!
Tuesday evening is a great time to come check the space out and get a tour! Is there anything specific that you are looking at working with? We got lots of passionate peeps with their own expertise!
@Weas3l I am looking to learn and work mostly on the Laser Cutter, 3D printer.
Tuesday evening would be perfect.
There are a bunch of people who are great with the printers and the laser cutter! @Imagesurgery is almost done getting our voron up and running, @cory has some deep laser knowledge, and members like @Phillip_Ma or @Redrosesforever work with the resin based printers in the paint and mess room. Hopefully they have some Tuesday hackspace availability to give you a walk around
Hi all,
I am looking to stop by for the open house tomorrow! I am pretty interested in the laser cutter, as I have a DIY project CAD’d up that would greatly benefit from laser cut parts. I am also interested in the CNC mill and 3Dprinters, unfortunately just had to sell my 3D printer as I don’t have room for it after moving.
I previously used to work in a maker space so have a lot of experience with laser cutting, 3D printing, and machining. Excited to come check out the tools and look forward to seeing the space!
Along with that my work is throwing out a few panels of acrylic, would the space want these they are 5mm and brand new, with protective coating on.
Thanks,
Colin
Hi Colin!
Tuesday is a great day to drop in and get a tour of the space. There are typically enough members around to answer any questions and give you a rundown of what we have to offer. Also check out https://www.isvhsopen.com/ for other open hours!
Hi Janet
Thank you so much for the tour. It really feels like a place I’d fit into
neuro divergent lgbtq+ friendly is great. The little one with me was Iver was a bit awe struck at all the tools. My ADHD was in full swing when I went to leave and walked into that closet I need to get some materials together. I’d really like training on the CNC machine. I was going to print a titanium sword at a 3d print shop downtown but they wanted $3000 for the print O.o
I’m blade smith/black smith trained at academy duello but the blades/swords I make are always blunted and I don’t sell them. They are for practice and ornamental and I use cheap materials so good luck holding an edge without tempering it.
I’m really excited to try that vacuum bucket that gets rid of epoxy bubbles.
I was using a piezo transducer to shake them out wasn’t perfect but it was good enough.
I’m so excited to show like minded people all the things I’ve created and hopefully can collaborate with some people on interesting projects.
I’ve combined my tailoring and micro electronic skills to make a mask that had a bunch of orange tea light led’s in the holes, kinda mad max looking and created a circuit that sensed the amplitude of my voice and made the light brighter when I spoke but at rest they just flickered like candles ^.^ very proud of that.
ok I’ll stop babbling. Chat soon once I get some materials together and if there’s a channel where I just ask ppl if my plan and timing of tools is cool let me know
Much love full metal_janet
David Bowie, or vacuum chamber, works really well at evacuating bubbles! Especially when used in concert with our pressure pot Freddy Mercury!
If you want some quality chats, come join the fun on slack, we got a bunch of channels for electronics, wood working, sewing, and most importantly a channel for discussion of ice cream and the possible stock levels of it in the space!
Welcome!!
Hi Kross!
Yeah, I think you’ll like our casting setup in the Paint & (clean up your damn) Mess room.
The one thing that I neglected to mention cuz my ADHD was also in pretty full swing is that in your first month of being a member, you can only be at the space when a keyholder has opened the space to non-keyholders. Schedule here: isvhsopen.com there may be other times that the space is open in addition to that. I’m often around on Friday evenings, message me if you’re thinking of coming down that day. After a month, if at least three people are willing to vouch a that you work safely, clean up after yourself, and generally aren’t a gigantic jerk, then you can get keyholder status and the full 24/7 access.
Our Slack workspace is an amazing resource for makers… it’s a solid “cozy internet” place with a huge pool of knowledge to play in.
before I work in a space I will definitely ask someone about clean up procedures and what to do.
I had a garage before and I was not so diligent I did a few big cleans when I realized it’s better to just clean up after each session I’m very very cognizant of being considerate of the space that is shared. It’s kinda like going to dry your clothes and finding a full lint trap, your like “come on man” but you just clean it and move on. If there’s one thing children have taught me is why bother asking just clean it up n move on may not be your mess but someones gotta do it
Hello,
I was looking to book a tour, and the link directed me here.
Can I book a tour here?
Thank you,
Mengya
Hi @Mengya_Zhao I’ll be at the space on Tuesday evening between 5 and 8 pm, and I can give you a tour then if you like. I will also be around on Friday evening, similar hours.
Hi there!
My friend and I would love to see the space. Was wondering if we are able to come on Sunday, November 10th, after 1 pm?
Thank you,
Lucy
Hi @Lucy i should be around on that day to show you around. We also have open house nights on Tuesday evenings between 4:30 and 9 so those times work great as well. Drop on by and say hi
Hi Phillip, thank you for the prompt response. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the space.
Hi,
This isn’t so much a request for a tour of the space as it is for a tour of this forum. I am a member of the Victoria Makerspace and was looking to ask this community about some tools for some inter-makerspace knowledge sharing and was wondering if there is a place on this forum that is best for doing that? I don’t seem to have the ability to create topics on this forum with this account I just made.
