Steam Bending Night - Success

[Original Below]

So…

I’ve built a fairly passable steamer box for steaming wood for use in bending. I’m no expert (only done it twice now) but I was curious if anyone was interested in doing a wood bending night where I’d show people how to use the steamer box, the things I’ve learned thus far, and allow everyone to try their hand at some bending.

I was thinking I could hold this mid to late November; by then I think I’ll have enough bending experience under my belt, to be useful, and that’s enough time for someone to bend something as a gift if they want to do so for end of year holidays.

I know there are a few boat builders here; so I know I’m not the most experienced person to be heading this up, but let’s gather together and do cool things.

Is there enough interest? If so I’ll put together a class/session with materials.

YES!

Let’s do this thing!!! Does Wednesday the 30th sound good? That night looks open on the Calendar.

Great! I’ll come.

Perhaps you could make a post in the Events and Announcements section for this workshop?

Is there a maximum number of people you can take? Perhaps consider some form of signup or registration?

I’ll set one up tomorrow; I’m thinking a maximum of 6-8 people; I’ll prototype what I’m thinking of doing for the night this weekend.

Ok, I lied, that was a lot easier than I thought.

Sounds really cool. I’m in. Not sure what I’ll do in the near future with it, but always good to have another tool. Thanks for putting on this workshop!

Of course! Looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned and doing some bending, and likely learning from those who attend.

It is certainly not the sort of ‘everyday tool’ but its also the sort of thing that would prevent someone from doing something, at least in a specific way, if they didn’t have access to the steamer box. They aren’t incredibly expensive, but without having all the parts they can be a bit to assemble.

Tomorrow I’ll be going over some of the resources I’ve found/made, some recaps of the experiences (successes/failures) I’ve encountered, bending forms and design tips I’ve learned on building those, and of course, actual steam bending!

See you all tomorrow night!

Thanks for running that! It was super cool to watch, while I was puttering
around doing other things.

Now the gears in my head are turning. A dangerous thing for my list of
unfinished projects.
