Scrapyard Challenge Workshop @ SIGGRAPH and at North Eastern

Hi VanHack!

We (Jonah Brucker-Cohen and Sebastian Bidegain both from NYC) are heading to Vancouver this week for the SIGGRAPH: Computer Graphics and Electronic Techniques conference being held at the Vancouver Convention Center from Aug 10-14th. For SIGGRAPH we are running a “Classic Arcade Controller Design Workshop” both at the conference on August 12 from 9am to 10:30am and again on August 13th at Northeastern University in downtown Vancouver from 4:30p to 8:30pm and giving a talk about my work in critical digital software and hardware. It would be great to see some VanHack folks at any of these workshops.. There are still a couple spots left to sign up for the 13th event and if anyone will be at the conference there should be space there to take part in our workshop as well…

ALSO - we are looking for donations in the form of “junk” for this workshop! If you have any of the following things you are looking to get rid of / donate we will gladly take them off your hands on Saturday the 9th or Sunday the 10th… List: Old electronics, computer equipment, furniture, kitchen gadgets, stuffed animals, plastic games and toys, anything with moving parts, and more!

Email Jonah at jonah@coin-operated.com to coordinate a pick up time…

Hope to see you there!

Jonah and Sebastian..

Hi @coinop29,

I’ve discussed this with some others here at Vancouver Hack Space and I think we can help you out! We have lots of surplus electronics components, e-waste, gadgets, googly eyes, etc.

If you are free on Saturday during the day, I would be happy to meet you at VHS to show you around and make a care package for you to take. I’ll PM you with my contact details.

If it is appropriate, you could also take some VHS postcards, stickers, etc. to put out during the workshop to give us some publicity.

Cheers,
Luke

PS: to other VHS members: I will take responsibility to ensure that the items we provide are items that are in abundance and would generally be available for any members’ projects, items on the free shelf, etc. If there are any concerns, or anybody wants to start making a box of stuff prior to then, please ping me on slack.
