Thanks for this course, Dan! It was very helpful for me and I even got my lights to do what they were supposed to do! :smile:

Now I just have to figure out what pretty light patterns to make with my grid. Maybe some dancing flames of a “yule log” for Christmas…

Can you draw your log in a paint program on an 8x8 grid? Then you can copy the colors into the arduino. Bam!

Put several in a row separated with a delay. Animation. Bam!

When you get it working please post a vine.

Good workshop! Was nice to get re-acquainted with a bit of programming.
Question though, in the workshop you detailed how to wire up the arduino to the power source to run independent of the usb connection, would you mind describing how to do that on here or in your blog?

Dan, did you have a chance to laser cut the plastic sheets?

I got a 16" x 16" piece of black corroplast and drilled the 64 holes on a 2" grid (left a 1" border in the event I want to mount several modules together). I then put a 16" x 16" piece of translucent corroplast in front of it and I think it looks pretty good… I’ll try to post a video of it…

Also tonight I will have a sample pack of neat arduino projects on hand. Come and tinker, see what you can get to work. RFID, LED matrixes, 7-segment displays, LCD screens, and more. All of it available as tutorials online, somewhere, if we do a bit of hunting.
