New 3D printer at VHS - Tinkerine Ditto Pro

Hey Everyone,

Today we took delivery of our donated Ditto Pro from Tinkerine Studios. Its setup in the 3D printing space near the laser cutter.

Few quick notes from the 3D print group (anyone else can feel free to discuss any issues about any rules here)

  1. Requires training to use. (Ash and others in the 3d print group has
some courses he is putting together for training)

  2. Do not hack this machine. (Pretty please do not hack this!)

  3. This Machine is PLA plastic only.

  4. If there are any issues with this machine it is under warranty, there is no need to disassemble anything (Tinkerine studios is 3 blocks away, getting it fixed won’t be a problem)

I’m sure there won’t be any issues, it looks pretty and it works well and we can use it to print loads of cool stuff. (Also useless stuff).

Thanks to Tinkerine Studios for getting us one, and @Daniel_DeGagne for also making this happen.

Hope you all enjoy it, Luke

Pardon my language, but HOLY SHIT…it’s here!!! Thank you Tinkerine and @Daniel_DeGagne!!! Wow, it’s so pretty.

Ok, I’ll get that training program up and running quickly. Others on the 3D printer work group ( @Lukeo, @SteveRoy, @KevMacD, @iMakeRobots, @Daniel_DeGagne, @InezG … ), I’d love to schedule a brainstorm. Maybe next Tuesday at the open house?

And to reiterate, do not hack this printer ever. From what I understand, @Daniel_DeGagne is the only one authorized to attempt any maintenance on it or we void the warranty.

Again, thank you Tinkerine!!

Great!! Thanks guys.

I’ll be at the space on Tuesday, so that works for me, @ashley.

I’ll do my best to make it out on Tuesday evening. I’ve got soccer, but
need an excuse to get down and check out the new digs!

It’s a thing of beauty!

Thanks Daniel, Luke and Tinkerine for making this happen. It’s a great addition to the space and had many admirers yesterday.

Steve

So we can zap-strap a dremel to this for machining metals, right?

Only soft ones, though. Like aluminum, or lead.

Saw this last night, it was very pretty. Can’t wait to use it.

Can we put this on a sign on the printer? “DO NOT HACK. UNDER WARRANTY. CONTACT XXXXXX IF BROKEN. WARRANTY VOID IF HACKED.”

(I’d do so myself - doocracy and so on, but a) this might count as hacking the printer, and b) I won’t be at the space for a while)

Yep Printer is there. Only people authorized to fix it are Luke Brooks and
I. That means no one else takes a single screw out.
Why? Because :

  1. We all want at have one printer working all the time.
  2. VHS agreed to this as part of the deal to get one donated. Tinkerine
doesn’t want to have a machine sitting there not working either.
  3. Luke and I work 3 blocks away there’s probably little chance that it
will sit broken for more then a day or 2 before we get down to look at it.
Most of the time it will be less time then that.

Luke or I will get some labels down asap. I was trying to print some last
night but all I had was a mac. I can post further information to “Why I
hate macs” topic if anyone wants to know more.

Its 1.75mm PLA only. And please don’t use crappy rapmart PLA. Its cheap for
a reason.

If you want a roll of your own for it you can come to Tinkerine and get 5%
off a roll. Its the good stuff. If you want a lecture on why not to but
cheap stuff, ask most anyone who owns there own printer.

Any questions you can ask me or Luke.

Enjoy

Awesome Daniel!!

Please post some of the prints on the VHS website. I doubt I will have time
to get into see it use during the next 3 months.

Got a good look at this machine on tuesday. It looks slick. Sign me up for whatever training is required to use this beautiful machine.

Is there documentation on it in the wiki yet?

Go for it!

Not to hijack; but do we still want the Prusa Air to return? Its sitting in my living room and has been making some nice puzzles while it awaits the OK to come back to the hackspace post-move.

When I was in last the MakerBot feeder needed a different hobbedbolt. I wouldn’t mind taking a stab at finding a bolt that will work and/or rigging a different feeder for that bot. When is the next 3d printer “meet up” at VHS?

@interlock: every Saturday morning! from 10:30 till 1:30 if memory serves correct. It’s better to check with the main man himself @ashley?

@TyIsI @ashley I can come in for a bit tomorrow morning if there’s a meeting happening.

I have a feeling that the MakerBot was dismantled & tossed? Last time I was at the space there were a bunch of MakerBot stepper driver boards in the 3-week bins and no MakerBot to be seen on the 3D Printer table.
