My OpenPNP build - progress report

Earlier this year @rsim posted a video of Jon Oxer showing his OpenPNP pick and place build (see below). I’ve said many times I would never build a PnP but this video killed all that. Jon showed that the software is mature enough and the hardware simple enough that a basic machine is within grasp.

I started acquiring parts, so did Richard, we have a table at VMMF to show our creations. Looks like I’ll be ready for VMMF in a month or so - it turns out the project founder lives in Seattle and is likely to come up for some of the faire.

Props to @LoialOtter for his suggestion of inverting a driver PCB and inverting the RAMPS/Shield. This let heatsink the underside of the driver (where the chip is pushing the heat). There are independent drivers for the two Y motors, they are driven with the same Step/Dir/Enable digital controls.

I’ve just about finished the mechanical build - I need to install the X endstops, hook up the vacuum to the head, install the down-facing camera (it goes under the rail) and install the work table. All the motion components are tested but pending calibration. There is room on the board for a second head, this is for ron.
