microSD card↔full-size SD card adapter made of transparent material

Hello World,

I want some microSD card↔full-size SD card adapters that are made of transparent material so that the label on the microSD card is visible through the adapter while the microSD card is fully inserted in the adapter.

All of the adapters I have and can find offered are made of opaque material (some type of plastic), usually coloured black.

Does what I want exist as a premade product?

If yes, where can I buy it? If not, can someone make it for me?

The alternative to using a transparent adapter is to try to modify an opaque adapter that I already have so that the label on the microSD card is visible when the microSD card is fully inserted in the adapter. I have enough adapters that I can afford to sacrifice/lose a few to experiments or failed attempts but I generally prefer working with software, not hardware.

Thank you for reading my post.

Hi Brolin, I don’t think such a thing exists, and it would be rather difficult to make one-off microSD card adapters, so I suspect there’s probably a better approach to solving your problem. What if you used clear tape to make a tag that always hangs outside the microSD card adapter, and write the label on it? I don’t have your hardware and I don’t know where else you’re using the cards, so I understand that you may have additional constraints that make this impractical. If this doesn’t work, maybe you can provide more information as to where you’re using them, and what sort of labeling is necessary (how many cards you have, how specific and varied the labels are, etc).

Here are two photographs to show how the microSD cards are used. The microSD cards are installed in a microSD card↔full-size SD card adapter in the full-size SD card connector on the left side of the TSCM (Touch Screen Computer Module) test jig board. The microSD card labels are printed by a Dymo label printer, which is a specialised printer connected via USB to a desktop computer running the Dymo Label application for Windows on Windows NT. The TSCM test jig uses a full-size SD card but some of our other models of boards use a microSD card; we use microSD cards instead of full-size SD cards because only a microSD card can be used in all of our models of boards that use an SD card.

Searching for “microsd extender” brings up all kinds of cables, perhaps something in there will work?

Yeah ok, so if you’re sticking Dymo labels on the microsd cards, you could certainly just make the label longer so that it trails off the end and always hangs outside of the microSD connector or card adapter.

My colleague seems to have successfully made such a modification:

The modified adapter seems to still work so far.
