Has anyone made a mason bee house?
I made on last year based on this Instructable, but put it out too late in the year.
I put it out this past weekend along with a bought one and also added a couple of containers of clay.
One of the things I did was to put mesh about 2" in front of the holes to stop birds from getting the larvae.
My neighbour gave me about 15 cocoons to get a start. He has had a house up for 2 years and we have noticed a lot more pears on our pear tree since he started doing this.
I have a long 3/8" drill bit and parchment paper for the tubes if anyone is interested in making their own - though you would have to get it done asap for this year.
