Hey, I’m from www.foulab.org Montreal hackerspace. I had meant to bring some swag but we left in such a hurry that I didn’t have time.
But the lovely people at Foulab have mailed me some swag for you lovely people at VHS! I have:
Stickers
Make-it-yourself buttons
I would like to host a “Make your own Foulab hackerspace buttons night”. I’d like as many people as possible to attend, so maybe on an open night? We would only need a corner of the main table. Is there a usual way of scheduling and announcing events like this?
(PS. I have never made a button. If someone is willing to teach me and/or help other people make theirs on that night, that would be greatly appreciated.)
Hey I could help you with the button maker if you’d like. The button maker makes 1 1/2” buttons so depends what kind of make-it-yourself kit you’re working with.
Alternatively it’s pretty straight forward to throw a graphic into a free tool and then print it - I’ve had success with this one: https://designer.buttonmakers.net/
If you need any additional button parts - I’ve had success with the parts from six cent press as they seem to be designed specifically for the button maker we’ve got: Button Maker Machine, Button Press | Six Cent Press
Also - here’s a great instructional video on how to make a button: YouTube
Tuesday open house night is a great time to come by, and there will be at least one person around that knows how to work the button maker. We can announce it to the membership on our Slack workspace, and I can throw it on the calendar as well.
Button making workshop is a “GO”. Did a dry run today and all is good. TJ graciously offered to bring supplies. If someone could put it on the calendar for April 14 that would be great!
