Looking to replace USB port on Nexus 7

Hi hackers,

I’ve got a pair of Nexus 7 tablets that I’d like to get up and running. The USB ports no longer allow charging, so I’d like to try replacing the chipboard with the USB and headphone jack as per: http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-7-not-charging-replace-usb-port-661122/

Part and toolkit on amazon.ca: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00WF91GNE?tag=aaca-20&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

Has anyone else tried this procedure? Any tips?

Also, since cyanogenmod is no more, any suggestions for a good Android mod?

Cheers!

Have not done this fix but have done the same repair on a Nexus 3. Worked really well. I had to do it several times as the USB died again later on (this was a common failure on the Nexus 3). My advice would be to get several versions of the part. You may need to do this again. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: have you thought about doing a wireless charging mod? Might be better than replacing the USB over and over again.

I cracked the screen on my 7. I searched the Android Authority site for a fix. Theres a good video there, however, I just need the glass and my digitizer half works. If anyone has anymore suggestions or has a dead 7 that I can cannibalize, that would be great. I think replacement screens cost quite a bit $60+.

Thanks!

andrew let me know if you are doing this fix. My Nexus 7 has the same
issue. we could do them in parallel?
