Have not done this fix but have done the same repair on a Nexus 3. Worked really well. I had to do it several times as the USB died again later on (this was a common failure on the Nexus 3). My advice would be to get several versions of the part. You may need to do this again.
Edit: have you thought about doing a wireless charging mod? Might be better than replacing the USB over and over again.
I cracked the screen on my 7. I searched the Android Authority site for a fix. Theres a good video there, however, I just need the glass and my digitizer half works. If anyone has anymore suggestions or has a dead 7 that I can cannibalize, that would be great. I think replacement screens cost quite a bit $60+.
