I know this isn’t a job board, but I’ve been placed in a significant jam by my (ex)summer employer in the San Francisco bay area. They are in some super heated legal hot water (120C @ 29 psi, ready to explode) and have, without warning, dropped me as an employee. This late in the game for summer jobs, this has put me in a not great situation with most of the companies closed to applications for the summer and I have a significant down payment on a rental that may or may not be refunded leaving me in a poor financial situation.
If anyone knows of people hiring technical interns for the summer in the bay area or here in Vancouver (or anywhere else for that matter) please let me know. I have been applying to anyone I can think of in both locations but have had no response so far.
I am a very technical person and am very comfortable working with my hands. I am in my 4th year of engineering (4 months to go), have a technical diploma, over 2.5 years of work experience at 6 different companies all over the spectrum, and countless hours working on personal interest projects. I have developed many essential technician level skills such as PCB assembly, troubleshooting, AC/DC circuit design, as well as higher level DC/AC Digital/Analog circuit and PCB design. These skills have enabled me to perform as both a repair technician troubleshooting and repairing electronic products, and as a technologist designing circuits and constructing PCBs and prototypes. I really enjoy working in the lab building things and working with my hands.
As far as I’m concerned vhs is a network, employment is all about networking, you’re on topic as far as I see. I hope we can help you and perhaps you’ll be helping someone too!
Sorry to hear about your job situation. Considering most co-op jobs/internships start at the beginning of May (at least in Vancouver) this is definitely a bad time to be trying to find one of those jobs.
I assume you’ve already approached your university’s co-op advisers for assistance, if you are in the co-op program. I know I’ve done interviews for co-op students as late as the beginning of April, but never this late in the term.
I don’t know of any jobs, but if I hear of something I’ll let you know.
If anyone else is looking for an internship I know Free Geek has an opening. Its grant money so if you have some idea that might work with they’re current goals. It wouldn’t hurt to talk to them. If you don’t want to spend your summer fixing computers and such maybe there’s something you can do that fits there needs.
