Looking for an old woofer...... (Dancing Non-Newtonian Fluid)

A while back someone turfed subwoofer into the 3 week bin…
It only had some sort of digital input so I removed the old amp and installed a cheap (Aliexpress cheap) power amp and used the original power supply…

Started playing with non-newtonian fluids (long winded name for cornstarch and water) along the lines of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoB0pM2VASg

Started off usign a signal generator then tried music… However after about 5 minutes I think I blew the speaker or the amp. It may work again once it cools down… Did not get any videos unfortunately…

Since this looked like fun I figure I could build a better system just meant for making the fluid dance. I have the amp and a power supply. Just need a 8" to 12" speaker (woofer preferably) to use. Perhaps a couple to work out the bugs…

So anyone got some old speakers gather dust they would like to see repurposed?

Here’s a picture of the non non-functioning setup:

If it works again once cooled down I’ll post some videos…

Turn off the amp, and push the cone by hand in-out. If you can hear scratching, then the voice coil is blown.

A cheap source of speakers are the thrift stores. There is an episode of Big Bang Theory with the guys playing with the same experiment.

Issue with speaker turned out to be a loose wire…

Next up trying with some music…

Very cool - be good at the VHS booth at VMMF next year.

I’ll try to set it up for that purpose…

Here is a try with some really bassy music:
