Since the wood CNC is down for now, is the laser machine be able to cut plywood/MDF?
What are the thickness limitations etc. I would be looking to cut rings out of wood.
I am not a member yet as I was mainly hoping to have access to a wood CNC but I also want to get to tinkering and experimenting and the waiting is getting to me.

Hey @Shaniio, welcome to VHS! Check out our wiki for info on approved materials.
All members require laser training and our trainers are volunteers. After joining you can expect to be trained usually within 30 days and it’s often sooner if at all possible.
Hope this info helps. There are lots of other tools and equipment to play with at VHS while you wait for that to happen. Let me know if you have other questions.
Hi Janet, I’m a new VHS member. I need a training for the Laser cutter. I found a very old thread about Laser cutter training with recent request and add myself. Is it enough? May be better to find somebody who can do training? But how to do that?

Hi Janet, sorry, nobody going to train us… Myself, I booked once laser cutter and Steve teach me some. He even sent message about me to somebody responsible. Actually I can work now myself. Software is familiar, device similar to CNC or 3D printer. What would you advice me? Thanks!

Thanks for your message. You will be trained and get laser access so please don’t worry. The training is run by volunteers on the laser cutter committee. They will be in touch to train/authenticate you on the system. Training happens within 30 days of requesting training. You must be approved by that committee to use the VHS laser. Until then, please wait until you are contacted by them. Thanks.
