How to record digital calipers / dial indicator to a database?

I’ve got dial indicators and digital calipers with a 4 pin connection. I want to automate testing repeatability for my robots - run them in a loop to touch the indicators and log the results. The only cable I’ve found that might work is

$50! For a cable! So I ask you: is there’s a better source or an easier way?

It is called an SPC interface, and there are a number of commercial solutions for recording the measured results to a table. I am sure there is something DIY too, but I haven’t looked into it…
