Help Needed for Internet Installation @VHS: Can you open/watch Cook Street?

Hi all,

As per Jarret’s forwarded email:

Thank you for choosing Smartt for your Internet needs. Your Internet connection will be installed and activated over the period of Wednesday January 21st to Thursday the 22nd. On Wednesday, a Telus technician will need to enter the electrical room in order to label the necessary cables. The visit may take place at any time during the work day. On Thursday, our installer will go on site to complete the installation and to test the connection. Please ensure that electrical room access is possible on both dates.

So we’ll need people for both Wednesday (Jan 21) and Thursday (Jan 22).

@lukecyca has already agreed to watch Cook Street for Wednesday.
@Rob_MacKenzie has agreed to open it for him, schedules permitting.

Can we get people for Thursday as well? Please mark your availability here: Expired Group Poll - Create a New Poll or Contact the Owner

Cheers!

No need for Thursday, Steve Roy has already indicated he’ll be onsite with
the technician.

I did? I don’t remember volunteering.

Sorry, that should have been @KevMacD
https://talk.vanhack.ca/users/kevmacd, not @Rob_MacKenzie
https://talk.vanhack.ca/users/rob_mackenzie .

It was that kind of volunteering… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes I will open and we can work out my lunch coverage from there. I am meeting with Steve Roy this evening so we can figure out the demark. I picked up the Smartt modem earlier today.

@laftho @Jarrett @garthomite - can one of you help out here?

Electrical room is actually open to us, it’s attached to our unit and there is a telco panel there. There is also a telco panel in the hallway so you won’t need the landlord on this one. He knows we are getting internet and he told me about the telco panel locations.

Does the installer have a direct contact to let them in or do I need to set the intercom to send a text when someone arrives?

Awesome thanks

I have arranged to meet the Smartt installer on Thursday.
For now I will use the ASUS RT N-16 I left at the space when we were looking at IPv6.
That should get us going with WiFi

Steve

Telus has decided to reschedule their install to this Friday.
I apologize to those who took time off and scheduled their day around the install today.
I will be the person to wait for Telus on Friday and also the ISP install which is moved to Monday.
I did everything I could as did Smartt to get Telus in today like they had scheduled but they wouldn’t budge.

Steve

Boo, Telus.

They do stuff like that. At least they said something instead of just not showing up.

No problem at all. Not surprising that Telus drags their feet when hooking up DSL for their competitor. I’m glad we are going with Smartt though — Telus doesn’t deserve our money.

Anyway, thanks again for organizing all of this.
