Halloween mask idea

I like the idea of these boxy Minecraft masks, but what I don’t like is the field of view you’d get with those tiny eyeholes held out at a distance from your face. Would it be possible to make an improved version of a mask like that with some sort of fabric on the front? I’m imagining some white, sheer fabric that you could colour with permanent markers in whatever pattern you want. Does that sound at all plausible? If so, is there a specific type of fabric that I should be looking for?

Speaker fabric material? It used to be available in black, so maybe in white as well?

Cheesecloth? A few layers should be still transparent, and the way that this stuff absorb blood, it should be great with felt pen inks…?

Hmm, cheesecloth wrapped around some sort of frame might work. And with all the zombies out there in Minecraft land, absorbing blood wouldn’t hurt either. Thanks!

Tulle netting might work well. It’s pretty sturdy. Dressew would have it I’m sure.

Tulle would have a much better finish, and a choice of color?..

Minecraft tutus for everyone!

That’s totally swag

Here’s a way over-engineered but fun hack idea for this type of costume.

This guy used a Raspberry Pi, a web cam and Occulus rift to be able to see while his eyes were covered → Oculus Rift in Action: Wearing the Oculus Rift at PAX Prime 2013

Now perhaps using google cardboard ( https://cardboard.withgoogle.com/ ) a cheap Android phone where you could remove the camera and connect it externally with wires and get the same idea for under $50 (I’ve seen old Nexus S phones for as low as $30 for example)

Or poke a hole for the camera to peek through, since the lenses are pretty small. Smaller hole, better field of view; what’s not to like? I wonder if this would work with Google Cardboard.
