Grant Funding possibilities for VHS

Hi All,
Your experience/inputs, especially those who have applied for Grants in past are welcome.
This is from Terry Beech, MP from Burnaby North.

I contacted the Library of Parliament regarding your information request about obtaining a new working space for Vancouver Hackspace. Please see the Library’s response below:

Further to your request to the Library of Parliament, here is information regarding financing programs and other resources that could assist the non-profit organization Vancouver Hackspace in obtaining a new workspace.

For additional research, or more comprehensive information, the following resources are often available in public libraries: Grant Connect Grant Connect is a bilingual database with information on thousands of funders of Canada charitable organizations including all Canadian grant making agencies, government funding programs, corporate community investment programs and American foundations. A limited version of Grant Connect can be accessed for free at hundreds of library branches across Canada. You can identify the closest library to them where Grant Connect is available, by sending the publishers an email at grantconnect@imaginecanada.ca.

Canadian Subsidy Directory The Canadian Subsidy Directory provides information about Canadian federal and provincial governments, associations and foundations who offer grants, subsidies, loans, funding programs, and more. This directory exists as a subscription database. An annual version is also published in paper format, and is available in many public libraries across the country.
Check each program’s website for application guidelines. Further questions should be directed to the funding agencies.

FEDERAL
Enabling Accessibility Fund

Employment and Social Development Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund could apply if the organization is planning to move to a facility with improved accessibility for people with disabilities.

The Community Accessibility Stream of the federal government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund is designed to provide funding to eligible recipients for projects that improve accessibility in communities across Canada. Eligible projects can include the constructing/renovating of community and recreation facilities where programs and/or services are offered to people with disabilities.

The most recent deadline for applications was July 26, 2017 and the 2018 competition is likely to follow a similar schedule. The organization should regularly monitor the above webpage for the announcement of the 2018 deadline for applications. Service Canada could also be contacted for more information by telephone at 1-800-622-6232 or by using the online contact form.

PROVINCIAL INFORMATION

The CivicInfo BC grants database may be the best provincial resource to identify additional sources of funding.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If the organization is considering eco-energy construction or renovations for the new facility, Natural Resources Canada maintains a website where you can see a list of energy efficiency financial incentives offered by the provincial governments, major municipalities and major utilities.

The federal government’s Canada Business Network has an excellent search engine for finding financial assistance programs for non-profit organizations that are either offered by provincial or federal government. In addition, a curated results list can be produced if an organization completes the prompts located here

Unfortunately, the Library does not know of any other resources that this non-profit can use to find suitable workspace.

On behalf of Mr. Beech, thank you for contacting our office. Let us know if would like our office to look into anything else for you.

Best Regards,
