I know we’ve got a few runners in the Hackspace, any of you venturing out into the cold and wet weather for any of the Fall Classic races at UBC? I’m doing the 10k
this is the crafty question, I have an armband for my phone from Seidio as part of this kit
It’s basically neoprene with some kind of cloth covering, the padded area that protects the arm is 2 pieces of neoprene glued together and that’s where the main problems occur, since I am putting this on and adjusting it up to 5-10 times a week during heavy training periods, the 2 pieces of neoprene have separated and the cloth covering it is coming off the neoprene pad and along the strap, so what glue can I use that is water and sweat resistant, can be washed by hand or in the washing machine and will keep the band and strap pieces from coming apart like they have. I was thinking standard fabric glue, but I don’t remember that being very water resistant (been may years since I did any clothing makine/sewing of my own).
2)) The 10k race map is here
but how does one download to an Android device. On my windows desktop, I can click the little flyout menu icon to get more details on the map and click a submenu to export in kmlkmz format. On my android devices, no such luck, the flyout menu is there in both Chrome and Firefox (both in mobile and desktop mode) but the option to download the map is NOT there in either case. Any suggestions on the best way to download google maps in kml format for use in my running app, in this case RunGPS
I do not know what glue is best, I always question about glue too. With respect to Android map download, I don’t believe there is a way to download it because tech evolves more for human to adapt to it, even get brain formatted, not the other way around as it should be. You can only use the functions it allows, or is capable of, if you can figure them out, or find them coincidentally and memorize them to use them in the future. Plus all of it running on software, there is never firm way of doing things virtually (e.g. downloading a map) - the way download worked once, will not work in the future. We are not in control of computer systems, be it a personal thing, or unclassified CIA secret. Computer technologies evolved to play on our senses with sense of touch been stepped over long time ago. If it does not work, just download it in a way that is fast and easy for you, even if you must whip, crank and bend it, when you have to.
You can get Aquaseal neoprene glue at MEC. I’ve used it in the past to repair neoprene spray skirts and kayak hatch covers. Works well and is relatively inexpensive at $8/tube.
It should survive the washing machine ok however I’ve never tried running it through the dryer. Probably not a good idea. I’ve also not used it on neoprene with cloth bonded to it so I can’t say if it will work on the cloth.
I forgot to mention that I’ve not had a seam come apart on me after I’ve used the Aquaseal. I’ve used it to patch a tear in a sprayskirt once and used the sprayskirt for a few years before I sold it with my old kayak. I have also used it to repair a puncture in a hatch cover seal that started to tear. So far the repair has lasted a number of years now. I learned about it many years ago from a fellow I met who made beer can insulators out of scrap neoprene he got from a wetsuit manufacture.
