Cutting Board Workshops - December 2025 and January 2026

Hey All

I’ll be offering up a few Cutting Board workshops over the next few weeks after Culture Crawl. The workshop is designed for beginners and it will give you some guided experience using several mainstay tools in the woodshop. You will use the Miter Saw, Planer/Jointer, Tablesaw, A Router (handheld or table), and Orbital sanders as part of the workshop in a supervised environment. You will get a chance to work with some domestic and exotic hardwoods all while designing something you can take home and use for years to come. Here is an example of some of the work put out from this workshop.

Me and my +1 are interested! Would the weekday options be in the evening or during the day?

I’m interested and selected some dates! Thanks, this is so cool!

Weekday options are 4-8pm. Noise curfew reasons - plus, believe it or not. I do have a day job.

Hey @Phillip_Ma my first sesh is coming up this sunday, is there any materials like wood that I should bring, or are you providing some options? Also though I’m a member I’m a little fresh, how does payment work (as in literally were do I insert my money card  )

I will bring all the materials you will need to make your cutting board. Just show up in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or getting glue on (the glue isn’t very friendly to water so it’s really hard to get this type of wood glue out of your clothes). As for payment i do take payments through square - and just as a reminder once i wrap up the classes for the year a portion of it will go back to VHS in the form of a donation.

Hey Phillip,

I signed up for Day 1 January 10th but don’t see any Day2 slots in Jan?

I’ll let you know when i add some dates into January. I haven’t sat down long enough to get workshop dates approved by my wife .

Alright this season of cutting board workshops are pretty much completed. I’ve collected payment from all the workshops i’ve conducted for this season and i was able to raise 400 dollars from the participating students this year and the funds has just been sent over.

I really wanted to say thanks to everyone who participated this year as well as prior years. I also want to give giant thank you to to those who have promoted this class out to others either through tours provided, newcomers asking questions about the woodshop, or to friends and family. The word of mouth did alot of the advertising for me this year and i appreciate the positivity shared. This year felt like the membership did a better job promoting the class then i did. That left me feeling great to hear that every time.

i am currently not 100% certain that i will be running this class next year and will probably make that decision in the fall. This is largely due to sourcing some of the exotic hardwoods used in the class becoming increasingly difficult to find. So some changes maybe in store on how this class is offered for next year.

Thanks for running the workshop Phillip! I had a great time and learned a lot.

I’m sure the workshop would be no less popular if the wood species were less exotic.
