Cook St Occupancy Limits: How many people can we squeeze in?

I was interested in answering this question, so I did some research.

Here are the links to the fire bylaw: Fire By-law | City of Vancouver

This page shows the calculations needed to figure out the maximum number of people:

Occupancy Load Regulations and Calculation package
http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/occupancy-load-calculation-package.pdf

“This guideline is set up pursuant to Vancouver Fire Bylaw Sentence 2.7.1.3., on determining occupant loads for assembly occupancies and licensed beverage establishments.
Any assembly space more than 60 persons, including a licensed beverage establishment, will be required to comply with the following procedure.”

What’s also interesting is how the space calculations differ given the nature of the space. Note the size for “School shops and vocational rooms”

Interesting.

1940 ft = 180.2m^2

I feel like we would be hard-pressed to get 180.2 / 0.95 = 189 people into that space, even during a SHHH.

The workshop “room” can’t be much more than 30 square metres, so that seems about right with 3 or fewer people able to work there at a time.
