Cook St Move: Last Minute Thoughts and Resources

Hi all,

I have placed a Canadian Tire bag containing:

  • a claw hammer
  • a box of twist nails
  • a box of wood Robertson screws (square)

On the shelf at the back of the space where the electrical room is. This is to repair any pallets that break and can’t be moved. I suggest carrying them in the moving van so it can be useful wherever pallets are being moved. If you don’t need it, don’t open the boxes so I can return it.

The remote control for the loading bay is on the same shelf. It looks like this:

It is REALLY not working well, and requires many attempts to get the door open. If you get stuck, try borrowing the one from Edward in Unit 106 (Edward’s Bindery). (I chatted with him last night, tell him you’re from the Hackspace and you’re moving in.)

I taped cardboard to the corridor to help protect it as the pallets go through:

There is more cardboard in the space along with some painter tape to increase protection.

I also outlined the edges of the loading bay with painters tape to help the driver back in:

I suggest moving the pallets on the right side to make life easier for the driver.

If you’re coming tomorrow, try to bring:

  • a cordless drill to repair pallets; better than hammer and nails

  • heavy-duty cart or dolly

  • a pallet jack (one at both spaces and one in the back of the moving truck)

  • bottled water

  • snacks

Suggestions to increase efficiency:

  • it’s easier to pull the pallet jack when loaded into the space through the corridor rather than push it

  • have a person run the lift while loading

The remote worked OK if you hold down the button and gesture vaguely in the direction of the antenna wire hanging off the motor.
