Cheap accomodations and a place to sleep for vistors

It has been suggested elsewhere find a hotel. $70

But I usually find a hostel. A good hostel in Toronto, Seattle runs around $20 to $30.
Every time I visit Toronto I go to the same hostel. They are like family to me.
I expect the same is true for Vancouver.

By the way the Hostel I go to in Tokyo is better than many hotels with a lot more spirit.

Unfortunately Hostels in Hong Kong are not so good. My first and only experience in Singapore, was walk in walk out.

In the past I have slept at YWCA and YMCA, these are much better than most hostels. But the prices vary and they may not be cheaper than Hotels.

Td, which hostel in Toronto?
Which hostel in Tokyo as well, thanks!

Which hostel in Vancouver and how much are they?

Recommended Toronto Hostel http://theonlyinn.com/. They sometimes have
shows downstairs. And people often share the cooking effort.

Recommended Tokyo Hostel http://www.sakura-hostel.co.jp/ This is a class
above. You can book room and take your family here. They arrange tours.
Even mayors from overseas cities visit this hostel. The people you meet
here is amassing!

Hostels in Vancouver mostly suck… There are a ton of party hostels and I wouldn’t suggest them unless your guest is feeling like exactly that.

Here is a link to many hostels in Vancouver

Here are two that aren’t too bad!

  • YWCA ~80/night (Or cheaper if splitting the room)
  • HI Jericho (May-Sept) ~25/night

Using Kayak.com / Google Hotel Search can get you around $100 for something reasonable if you’re not booking last minute.

ULTIMATELY, I’d use AirBnB - You can range from $35+ depending on what you are looking for and get great selection.

Never used The Only Inn but I hear great things. If you want something more chill/less backpacker oriented then I’d do Clarence Park - Stayed here once and it was very relaxing.

For Tokyo - I’d stay in the Khaosan hostels. But there are many great hostels. Tokyo is so big that you should just look at what area you want to stay in and find a good one from there. Use this and sort by rating to find a good one on HostelWorld. It’s also worth the time and money to spend 1 night in a capsule hotel if you are a bit adventurous.

Not even a mention of CouchSurfing?

I have a continuous flow of fantastic folk in and out my place from all
over the world.
I myself have couchsurfed worldwide even in Shenzhen for example and met
the most amazing people.

If you are honest, clean and build a good reputation and online profile -
the world is open and can even be free as in sharing.
Cost of a comfortable bed and a helpful friend anywhere = ZERO

Zero is the best.

thx for the tip, I will try Clarence Park http://www.theclarencepark.com/

CouchSurfing seams interesting, but simply do not have space to offer to
couchsurfers.

… and that would mean I’d have to clean…

Does sound really cool though, wasn’t familiar with it.

I’m a big fan… but I find as a guy, you need to book it about 1-2 weeks in advance… I’m much more on the fly, no planning, when I travel. Sometimes you need to contact 10-20 people before you get a hit.

Otherwise it has been one of my best experiences.
