Building a "stealth" shell for a Sumo robot

How about redirecting instead of absorbing?

Pretty much every metal surface is a near-perfect mirror in the infrared spectrum. If the case was angled upwards, and covered by, say, tin foil, the sensor’s signal would be redirected towards the ceiling. Those IR proximity sensors don’t have enough range to pick up the ceiling, I guess, so they wouldn’t pick anything up.
