AM and FM radio communication

This is mostly for the other folks doing the HAM radio course with
Farrell, but I bet other people will get a kick out of it too.

Hackaday.com has an ongoing series called ‘retrotechtacular’, where they
post videos and whatnot on older technology. They’re all pretty
interesting ( I learned how differential gears in a car work from one of
the posts ).

One of the posts was on the fundamentals of AM and FM radio
communication
,
and it’s got a great video from the US
Army
on how they work.

If you find any other videos like that on radios and how they work, post
them to this thread – at the very least, I’d love to watch them!

We should add these links to the VHS-ARC page at vanhack.ca

On topic: Check out Alan W2AEW’s YouTube channel. He has quite a few videos on the fundamentals of radio operation (among other things), modulation techniques etc. His style is really easy to get a handle on and he clearly knows what he’s talking about. https://www.youtube.com/user/w2aew/

On topic WRT retro tech: It might’ve been posted here a few months ago (don’t recall where I saw it), but the Navy’s 1953 video series on mechanical fire control computers is fascinating. Amazing how computation was done in an entirely analogue domain, without even electrical signalling! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1i-dnAH9Y4
