All thermostats look like crap, help me make a better one

Are you sure? This setup looks pretty sweet:

Just kidding, this is obviously not in line with your minimalist design.

What will the web interface looks like, Rob?

Are you using a framework?

@wander I have a really odd mix of “needs”. I do want a massive control system, complex and geeky as hell, but I have to be able to hide it and pretend I’m a normal human. These thermostats accomplish the normal human bit, with the ESP hidden behind.

Haven’t gotten there yet @Jarrett. I plan to do some reading on temperature control and the algorithm to use the least power to maintain temp etc. A big part of this is to save money as I was paying way too much for heating.

Right now I think the ESPs will be pretty stupid and just have set temp, maybe some variables about the algorithm. Then any smartness I’ll toss onto something running elsewhere. Any suggestions?

I’ve wanted to make a web-enabled thermostat that is configured with an online calendar (like google calendar) and custom rules for interpreting the calendar and determining the temperature.

You could also use an array of 10W LEDs to backlight your box, and do away with the central heating system altogether.
