Hi,
You may recall from the Access Makeathon that a few projects made use of the LipSync (www.makersmakingchange.com/lipsync). The LipSync enables a person that has no use of their hands to use a touchscreen device through a mouth operated joystick controlling an onscreen cursor. It is an open-source hardware project funded by Google.org, and anyone can 3D print the parts, flash the Arduino Mini board, and order the components to build this access device.
At the #BCTECH Summit, there will be a Monday Make event that will have multiple people builda LipSync. It is an afternoon that connects a person with a disability to a pair of makers.
The goal is each team will help a person leave the event with a working LipSync, giving the recipient the opportunity to independently use technology like the rest of us.
Teams will be supplied with the tools, components, parts and instructions, and will work together to assemble, solder, 3D print components, transfer the code onto an Arduino board, and mount the device to a wheelchair.
Individuals or teams can signup: http://bit.ly/2017_LipSync_BCTECHSummit
It runs from 1 - 5 at the Convention Centre, with a beer garden and the torch being lit afterwards. There is still room for more makers, if any VHS peeps would like to join.
Cheers,
Chad
