VIVO Partnership with VHS?

Hi all,

Emily Smith is organizing a series of events through Vancouver New Music and VIVO, and she’s inviting VHS to partner and participate:

In partnership with Vancouver New Music, we’re hosting a series of workshops and events at VIVO. We would love to include VHS in the programming and do some cross promotion. Some of the events that we’re doing include:

  • Ladies Hacking Nights, Tuesday and Thursday October 13th and 15th, 7-10pm. $75. Cost includes the Atari Punk Console Kit. No previous electronics experience required. (max 7 students)
  • Screening of Nicolas Collins’ Handmade Electronic Music, Wednesday, October 14th, 7-10pm. Event by donation.
  • Intro to Circuit Bending: A drop-in session covering all aspects needed to get started with circuit bending, from prying open your first case to putting the knobs on a completed project. Bring 1 or 2 circuits to bend and any parts or modifying elements that you would like to use. (By Donation)
  • BENT Exhibition: November 7th. Doors at 7pm. Lots of past VHS members will be participating and exhibiting in the event(s) including Tyson Haverkort, Ryan Smith (aka Goldfish), Vincent van Haaff, Chris Hixon, David Leith, and others (including me) .

It would be awesome if we could do some sort of media sponsorship related to the event. IE: We feature VHS’ logo on our poster, and a blog post, in exchange for a mention on the VHS mailing list.

Emily has also suggested that we could host some workshops at VHS, and that someone from VHS could speak at their events.

What do folks think?

Awesome, I would love to see VHS partner and work with other organizations like this. VIVO is a great group of people that align very well with VHS mission. Emily Smith is a former VHS member that help start the Vancouver Mini Maker Faire. I have nothing but good things to say about Emily and Vivo.

How can I help ?

hey guys, basically we’re in the process of creating what’s shaping up to be a really great series.

I want to see a Hackspace presence at the events. Perhaps someone would be interested in talking about VHS at the Ladies’ Hacking Night and drop in session for circuit bending.

Funvill, do you want to take the lead on this? Cheers!

Hey,

I think this is a great idea, and I’m happy to help out any way I can.

Let me know what you need, or feel free to contact me down the line.

Funvill is out of communication for the next month or so probably, but I
can take up the slack.

hey Jarrett, give me a call at 604-219-4863 when you get a chance and we can be in touch.

Just wanted to pass along a notification of upcoming VIVO show. As I’m part of a project with Artist Dzee Louise and my part involves an autonomous robotic, this would certainly classify as a VIVO/VHS collaboration.
