Actually this just gave me an idea for a Compass Card trading system. Once you spend all the funds in your card, you turn it into the service and you get a random card that somebody else has turned in. I’ll register the domain, what is a good name? DontTrackMe.ca?

Some people don’t understand why tracking is a problem.
Lets say I go the the casino every weekend, which I do. It makes me look like a gambler. If I CARED about what people thought about me this information could be used to blackmail me.
It can also be used to know when a group of people is busy and not likely to be able to attend an event.
If that event is voting, this is HUGE deal, because this knowledge can be effectively used to suppress voting by a group of people.
Yes, at vending machines, stores that sell the compass cards (such as london drugs).

You can pay cash to recharge your Compass cards at the station. You can
also use the paper cards in the same way, they are completely
interchangable with the plastics ones, just flimsier and 60 cents instead
of six bucks.
There are cameras at the stations, so you can still not ensure your
anonymity there. Considering casinos and, like, all of London have facial
recognition, that might be a good bet here, too?
I am not sure why people seem to think that having a random card would stop
you from being tracked, there are cameras all over the stations, and it just
takes a swipe at the fare gate, match with a time stamped photo and it’s game
over.
Sunglasses, beard, hoodie. The vancouver police learned a lot of lessons regarding what can and can’t be done with image recognition during the riots. There are still hundreds of unknown rioters that they have given up on trying to identify.

I think this is the wrong way of approaching this. At this point, I don’t personally care enough to justify the waste of plastic (I know, you can return it for $6, but you know they’re just going to trash it). What we should really be doing is making this into an issue that Translink and politicians understand.
No, I think people are just bitter and want to see everyone suffer just as much as they are. There’s no financial sense in the faregates; people are just selfish and vengeful.
I would suggest http://www.anonymizevancouver.ca/ except I’m doubtful that people know how to spell anonymize. How about http://www.harmlessanonymous.ca? The only issue with trading is that each card can have some variable amount of debt, and I’m not sure if we can check the balance without being at a skytrain or bus. And, well, physically transferring the cards between people.
Wake me up when we have an actual democratic voting system and not this first-past-the-post nonsense. 
You can check the balance of a card on the compass card website without registering (according to the Terms and Conditions for a “Generic Card”).
