Sniffing i2c & spi

I need to do some i2c & spi sniffing.
bus pirate (which version) v3.6a

And if I want something a step up from bus pirate.

Which should I choose?
Saleae (or similar) or Beagle

Any BusPirate will work fine. VHS has one mounted to a piece of plywood.

If you want a step up, the Saleae is the best option, for sure. I don’t
recommend using a Beaglebone, it won’t be better than the BP for those
protocols.

Keep in mind our oscilloscope has a logic analyser built into it, too.

Unfortunately we don’t have the license for the protocol decoders. Or at least that’s the conclusion I came to when I tried to use those features.

I was considering Beagle I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer

Beaglebone.

But I do agree Saleae is probably the way to go if I want to step up.

Ah, I haven’t heard about the Beagle. I’ve heard about the Saleae, because
everyone who has one raves about it. I’ve also used the software, and it’s
pretty fantastic.

I am a little concerned that our scope does not support i2c. Does our scope require a firmware upgrade?

I do know we can upgrade the scope to unlock features. Perhaps it is time to consider this.
