Building a Storable Shaving Bench/Horse

Michele will be speaking on, and showing, a small space Shaving Bench that is storable/”knockdown”, a great feature if you are an apartment dweller and want to carve inside or on your patio! A Shaving Bench is a combination of vice and workbench used when shaping wood with hand tools i.e. spoon carving, paddle making, creating a round profile along a square piece before starting to turn it, and more. Steve will demo an aspect of edge finishing the bench using a Router. A link to the build plan and some hard copies will be available for attendees.

A reminder for those that attended last month’s meeting that the challenge project for this month’s meeting was to try Hand Cut Dovetails and bring your effort to the meeting to show!

Sign up here for the guild meeting. All skill levels welcome including beginners!

Thanks to everyone who attended! The meeting was excellent. It was packed with show and tell items, a router demo, old saws that had been restored, and also a presentation on how to make that storable shaving horse/bench. Plans are here. Michele gave us a handout with some notes, if you’d like a copy of those PM me. There are a few tricky bits.
