NEIGHBOURHOOD SMALL GRANTS 2015 - Fairy doors

** Disclaimer: Doors may not contain actual secret treasures.

Also, “Donations gratefully accepted”?

I am not allowed to accept donations or payments for this workshop.
Its part of the rules of the grant. I can ask for donations to the space while at the space but I don’t think its appropriate to put it on the poster.

The coding for this is already done. I was hoping that people would make their own doors outside of this workshop and put them on the map too. The website will have information on how to add peoples own doors to the system (creating a QR code with instructions on a sticker and pasting it inside the door)

Code is the easy part, Physical stuff is hard

Ah, gotcha.

Posted the event for the Magic door workshop and sold out in 24 hours.

The hinges for the Magic door workshop came in the mail today. They are 1/10 of the size I wanted. I ordered 2.1 cm and got 2.1 mm.

The hinges took 6 weeks for delivery so I don’t have time to reorder them. So I am going to have to pay retail price for hinges locally for the workshop and try to resell these hinges to recover the cost.

I ordered a 2nd set of hinges off of Amazon. It looks like they got lost in “MISSISSAUGA, ON, CANADA”

Sigh

It’s stuck in Customs, you should call Canada Post to find out why. Use the RS* number as reference. This link will provide you better tracking details: Canada Post - Track a package by tracking number / Postes Canada - RepĂ©rer un colis au moyen du numĂ©ro de repĂ©rage

It has been sent Registered so it cannot get “lost”.

I suspect that you are correct. I just worried that it wont get here in time.

Does anyone have some spare art supplies to donate to the fairy/magic door workshop.

Specifically (but not limited to) I am looking for the following.

  • Water proof paint - Acrylic, Not spray paint
  • Paint brushes of all sizes
  • Buttons and things to glue onto the front of the door.
  • Stickers
  • Glue and glue sticks
  • LARGE sparkles (no fine dust sparkles)

I plan to start cutting the doors this week so i can prime them all before the kids arrive in two weeks. I have a gallon of primer (Gesso) that I am planning on using.

I can come pick them up or you can leave them in the drop box at VHS.
Thank you !

Just for reference this is the finished poster that @ninetynein help me create.

Got some craft stuff from urban source

All this stuff for $10 !

The workshop was a big success, Everyone left happy and we had a few parents interested in becoming VHS members. I have started on the social media and it should continue for the rest of the week. Hopefully it will result in some positive press. I will be doing a post-mortem after the social media campaign is done.

A post with pictures from the event.

More pictures can be found here

Website is up and running with a map of some of the installed doors.
