Looking for a color light sensor

I’m looking for a very small through hole sensor that can detect an RGB light and return a 24 bit value.
I don’t need whole image detection like a camera sensor.
Something that runs at 5v and uses i2c or SPI would be perfect.
On breakout board with mounting holes would be convenient, but not essential.
If you know of something that fits the bill, please post below.
sensor range is <=1cm

best i find so far is ADJD-S311-CR999, which sparkfun has retired. Maybe the TCS3000?

I have a Parallax TCS3200-DB (TCS3200-DB Color Sensor - Parallax) that is just gathering dust…

I bought one of these:

I haven’t played with it yet, but I was excited when I did buy it. But I was also drinking…

All this said, sampling light is really hard, consistent results are difficult.
Getting pure 8 bit RGB isn’t gonna be anywhere close to linear. But I am curious how it turns out.

CJMCU-34725 uses the TCS34725 Color sensor and it’s only $4 on aliexpress!

My goal is to put a strip of rainbow color in front of the sensor (like, 2mm away), move the strip, and read the color value at the position along the strip. think of it as a poor man’s linear absolute encoder.
