I can’t commit to any particular date too far out, but I can commit to trying my best, if you warn me 3-5 days beforehand. I can open / TA / whatever.
Thanks Janet. That’s okay, we’ll play it week to week. Since you’re coming to the first class can I rely on you for opening that one at least? Rob was planning to come but may have a work commitment on the 17th.
Oops, sorry @Jarrett I was chatting with Janet at the same time and got confused. Also, note the course starts Oct 17th not this coming Monday.
@Bill Tubs I have unfortunately double booked myself for the 17th -
hopefully I will be able to do some homework to catch up what I’ll miss.
Hi @toptekkie. We won’t be doing any coding in the first class so what you will miss is introductions and an overview presentation from me about computer programming, Python and what kinds of potential applications it can be used for. We may go through the process of installing Python as well. I send out the handouts after every class so you will be able to review those.
Good news. We moved the projector screen last night to a better position so now the teaching area can take 12 people. So I just accepted two more people to the course. That’s it though. We can’t fit any more in than that. I appreciate everyone else’s flexibility in letting us have this many people in the space. I hope it doesn’t cause too much inconvenience.
Awesomeness is never an inconvenience!
12 people sounds great. More than that and I would assume it would start to get hard to give people personal attention anyway.
Thanks @bruce. Yes it is going to be challenging to teach 12 but @Rob_MacKenzie and @Jarrett have offered to help out by being teaching assistants when they can. If anyone else wants to help I could sure use it (and share some of the proceeds).
Looking forward to Python tonight. See you all there.
Hi @toptekkie. Did you get the invite to the Slack group I sent yesterday? I’ve posted links to the class presentation and other information there so you should be able to catch up using that. If not, ask questions on the #learning channel on Slack and I will try to respond. The main thing to do before next class if possible is to install Python (Anaconda distribution with Python version 2.7 ideally) and make sure your text editor and command-line app is working.
@workless - yes did get the link - have installed the python system but slack is something I find confusing!!
Yes I understand. It seems to be taking over and everybody in class seem to be familiar with it so we decided to go with it. You don’t have to subscribe though. I’ll email you the dropbox link so you can just access the files that way too.
