I am receiving this week some 15 packs of Arduino starter kits. They include an arduino and a big collection of fun peripherals. Long time VHS people will have seen these boxes before. They include:

  • Arduino
  • usb cable
  • seven segment display (1 char wide)
  • seven segment display (4 char wide)
  • 16x2 LCD
  • 8x8 red LED screen
  • console style joystick
  • RFID reader/writer
  • RFID card
  • RFID fob
  • sound sensor
  • temp/humidity sensor
  • speaker
  • 9g servo
  • small stepper motor & h bridge board
  • water level sensor
  • 1 large breadboard
  • lots of precut wires in a rainbow colors
  • more!

My first goal is to assist people exploring these fun building blocks and build a set of instructions that can be used in future classes.

My second goal is to show several members how to use RFID so we can integrate a system into the door locks and the membership database. Safety committee could even limit dangerous gear to card access.

I’d like to run the class January 31st, 2014 from 12:30 to 3:30. Internet and power would help a lot.

Could I bring along my 8yo and have him and I do it together for one price?

@arrgh yes!

I will have a sample kit at VHS tuesday nights starting TONIGHT. I plan to make a small game of tetris with the 8x8 LED grid and the joystick. Whee!

I’ve cancelled the “last minute” tickets. There are THREE left at this point. Class is this Saturday. I will have some kits at VHS tonight for anyone who wants to get started early.
