Fibreshed Meet-up: Mapping the Lower Mainland and beyond - Thursday, April 16th @ Groundswell

More info

Are you interested in exploring local textile production in Vancouver? Do you want to meet fellow fibre-enthusiasts in the city to share ideas and explore new projects? Do you know any communities, farms or resources exist within 500 miles?

The focus of this meet-up is on aggregating data on what fibre resouces exist locally, and then creating an accesible community map, which will be shared with you after the session.

In the meet-up, we will address the following questions:

  • Do you know of any farms for sheep? Alpacas? Llamas? Flax? Cotton? Any other kinds of fibres?
  • What mills currently exist within 150 miles? Where do most farmers send their fibre for processing?
  • Who are the local makers, and maker groups? (IE: weavers, spinners, knitters, crocheters, sewers)
  • Do you know of any places you can go to learn more about textile arts?
  • What are the innovative projects taking place at the intersection of art, garments and community?
  • Who in the community is interested in social justice garments?
  • The event is happening Thursday, April 16th at Groundswell. Please RSVP on the eventbrite page here
  • The total radius of the fibreshed project is within 150 miles.

We are still looking for volunteers and facilitators. If you are interested in contribution, email Bea at bea@buildingcaringcommunities.ca

Everyone is welcome to come, learn, contribute and socialize. Donations go towards space rental and snacks for the evening.

Don’t forget to RSVP for the meet-up that’s happening on Thursday, April 16th!
